Pig face was a popular type of helmet used since the end of XIV century to half of XV century (ca. 1370 – 1430). It’s german name – Hundsgugel – means “dog’s hood”. Although it is connected with medieval Germany it’s depicted were common in France. The most characteristic part is visor looks like a cone, which provides aerodynamic shape. It was an advantage during fight on horseback.

The product id s copy of helmet preserved in Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg, dated at the end of XIV century. It has a very long visor with ventails at it’s both side, attached by side-mounted pivot. The moving visor gives possibility of taking breath and better view on battlefield. At the contrast to iconograhpy we do not have a lot of preserved Pig face’s helmets, so available in our store copy is a very interesting possibility of completing the plate armour of medieval knight from XIV/XV century.
