Ropilla 17th century – Soldiers Cassocke – Wool

The ropilla is a type of jacket worn over a doublet. It has characteristic hanging sleeves from which the arms can be removed.

It was widely worn by both musketeers and cavalrymen, as it protected their equipment from the elements.

Jackets of this type can be found in paintings throughout Europe.

In literature, this type of garment can also be found under the name soldiers cassocke.

The most famous examples are the ropilla after Gustavus Adolphus and, for example, Vaclav Vilem Popel Lobkowicz.

The ropilla is available in standard sizes and can be made to measure.
