Pallet is a large linien sack filled of straw or hay. It was used as a mattress along with a wooden frame to serve as a bed, or separately lying on the ground. The pallet is in terms of dating universal, appearing from the beginning of human history, up to the present day.
It is worth mentioning that in the Middle Ages, so-called Schlafbank (Szlaban) was a common furniture piece among the poor. It was a bench during the day, while at night the seat was raised and the front part was extended together with the legs, which formed a kind of a box in which the pallet was placed.
