Sallet c. 1515

Excellent quality sallet, a copy of the German pattern of an unknown armorer. Dated 1515. Made of 2mm thick hardened steel. Can be used in combat.

Product made by one of the best Polish craftsmen. A complex and careful execution process takes time. However, it translates into quality. Hence, the deadlines for completing the order are quite distant. The waiting time is about half a year.

The sallet is a helmet which has XIV century Italian origin. At beginning it was in two version- with covered face (barbuta) and without visor (celata), but finally it became the close helmet. It was used both by soldiers on foot and horseback, horewer always as a part of a full plate armour. We can see it in medieval paints, sculptures, even drawing in medieval combat treatises. The sallet was the most popular in the second half of XV century. Every country has it’s own version – german sallet, french sallet or english were different. Usually it has long neck guard and one narrow sight.

Available in our store sallet is a olate version of the helmet. The bowl has a rounded shape with a few small combs. The neck guards has few plate, which gives both comfortably using and a very good protection. the visor is tall, attached by side-mounted pivot. Long, narrow sight was divided into two half inside of them. The breath are made on all visor to give the user good breath and safety during battle. The german sallet is necessary to complete your own Maximilian armour.
