Pig Face Bascinet – Philadelphia

Excellent quality pig face bascinet. It is 2mm thick and made of hardened steel. It can be used in rough combat. Main Part is welded from two pieces however we can provide one made using medievial technology. Visor is forged of one piece of steel. Original piece is currently located in museum in Philadelphia, USA.

Product made by one of the best Polish armourers. The complex and scrupulous process of production takes time. However it has a direct result in high quality. It takes about six months for our armourer to fulfil an order.

Pig face was a popular type of helmet used since the end of XIV century to half of XV century (ca. 1370 – 1430). It’s german name – Hundsgugel – means “dog’s hood”. Although it is connected with medieval Germany it’s depicted were common in France. The most characteristic part is visor looks – like a cone, which provides aerodynamic shape. It was an advantage during fight on horseback.

Bascinet with “pig face” visor is dated at the last years of XIV century, possibility forged in France. It has high, pointed bowl with visor attached by side-mounted pivot. The visor (you can use the helmet without this) has apointed shape with four sharps. The original bscinet’s visor has straight, narrow, convex visor and the ventails are on all pig face. This helmet is a good and full historical part of full plate armour.
